A Sign from Dog
A Sign from Dog
A funny, wise, and deeply human take on animals—mostly dogs.
In this work of literary nonfiction, Leslie R. Smith draws on two decades in animal shelters to explore what animals can teach us about love, loss, belonging, and being human.
Part memoir, part inquiry, A Sign from Dog draws on stories from the shelter floor, where the lives of people and animals collide in unexpected ways. With humor and candor, Smith writes about the creatures we cherish and those we misunderstand or overlook. Along the way, she takes up bigger questions about loyalty, grief, and what we owe one another.
For animal lovers and readers of beautifully crafted nonfiction, A Sign from Dog is a warm, sharp, and quietly profound look at the bonds we form and what it means to care for another living being.
